My Tie to Washington

Washington goes back a long way for me — further than almost anywhere. I started out as a kindergartener here in DC, and years later spent two summers living in Potomac as a college intern at Price Waterhouse. So the DMV isn't abstract to me: it's where some of my earliest memories are, and where I first learned what it looked like to work in this city.

Later, as a Marshall Memorial Fellow with the German Marshall Fund — headquartered here in DC — I came to know Washington's policy, think-tank, and leadership circles as an adult. I understand the people who come here to do serious work: the public servants, the strategists, the ones who measure their lives in missions rather than quarters. I've known this city at three very different stages of my life, and I still feel at home in it.
